Gorton’s Beer Battered Fish

Gorton’s Beer Battered Fish – It’s been a while since I reviewed frozen seafood from my hometown Gorton’s of Gloucester. My dad who works at Gorton’s recently brought me a packet of their Pub Style Beer Batter Code and I’m looking forward to trying it. The problem was that I was getting used to my low FODMAP diet and breaded seafood was off the list. However, it’s important to try different foods as part of the diet to see what your tolerance will be – these ingredients don’t have to be banned forever, just the ones that cause a bad reaction.

Since the diet was going so well, I decided it was time to rediscover what Gorton’s Fisherman had in store for me. We must admit that the first impression was good.

Gorton’s Beer Battered Fish

Pub Style Beer Battered Cod. This premium filet comes in a superior package compared to the standard yellow box or bag. I immediately liked that the packaging allows you to see the product, you can take the fish out of the carton for a closer look. When it came time to open it, I also realized it was heavy-duty cling film, not thin cellophane to seal the fish.

There is some information on the back of the box about the quality of their wild curry. Gortons has recently gone to great lengths to reassure the public of the quality of its wild-caught and sustainably sourced fish. According to some acquaintances who work at the enterprise, the filling for the dough is made from a well-known beer that many of us drink. The list of ingredients does not contain artificial flavors, colors and preservatives.

I’ve been interested in these fillets for a while and they look really good right out of the box. They were a good size, the two fillets taking up most of the tin. They’re not as thick as the cod fillets I’ve reviewed before, but they’re a good size. Beer batter looks thick and of good quality, but good looks mean nothing if they don’t taste good. I’m not expecting a pub experience, but based on how the product looks out of the box, my expectations are higher than usual.

Follow package directions to bake in oven: 425F for 30-35 minutes, flipping at 20. I didn’t use foil to line the box, I used parchment paper. During the cooking process, the fish gave off a very strong aroma of dried fish. When I flipped it over, I noticed there was liquid on the parchment, but the fish itself was crispy and not sticky. However, I know if I use foil it will be sticky and a bit soft – definitely use parchment paper.

Although it says two servings on the package, of course I ate both. I served the fish with arugula and cheddar potatoes that I bought at the local supermarket. With my usual squeeze of lemon, I added some mayo, some spices and some dill pickles to make a tartar sauce.

In general, I must say, they are not bad. They came out crispy, the batter was lovely and the cod flakes were lovely. If you’re familiar with Gorton’s Fish Sticks, which use Alaskan cod, they’re the best. If I have two large rolls, these fillets will make a fish sandwich for two. Or for a quick lunch of fish and chips with large golden fries.

Now it’s not like having a real fish fry at your favorite pub, but I certainly don’t mind putting it in the freezer. Steps away from Fish Sticks but convenient. Gorton’s Pub Style beer batter code is the best in my opinion. An air fryer is the perfect way to cook this Gorton’s Whole Fish Fillet. Hot circulating air makes the crust incredibly crispy; Not to mention reducing the later soft separation between the fish and the coating that is so common in this type of frozen food.

Make sure your food is always well cooked. We recommend investing in a reliable kitchen thermometer. Check out the available selection on Amazon – there’s something for every price point.
