Even if you can spend $50, you’ll have some left over to use in future classes. This is an initial investment in something important.

Make sure you have a large plate that can hold all the food. For a 4-person charcuterie board, I’m thinking about a 14″x10″ board, plate, or platter. Here are some of my favorites that are easy for any type of cheese board you make.

If you’re hosting a party or have a big family like me, here are some great (and delicious) cheese plates.

Hosting tip: To save money on making a large charcuterie board, add items you can buy in bulk (at cost) to expand the number of people you’ll be feeding. I like fruit, vegetables, popcorn or dips.

You want to buy a small bowl. These cups serve two purposes. They break up the table and add a bit of height – they look great and are a must for any pretty cheese board. They also make bowls to hold things that mess up food when it’s placed directly on the table (think pickles leaking or getting stuck everywhere).

Quick Charcuterie Board For 6 8 People

Whether you host a lot of parties or enjoy a fine charcuterie course, it’s important to know the role of each cheese knife.

Many knives can be used for many different things. These are some of the most popular knives and are used for:

Chisel knife: used for semi-soft (Fontina, Gouda, Havarti) to semi-hard cheeses (cheddar, Manchego). It helps spread soft cheese, or shave the bottom of hard cheese.

Open-bladed knife: used for soft and firm foods (brie, boursin, telegio). The holes help prevent the cheese from sticking to the face.

What Is A Charcuterie Board?

Narrow knife: used for semi-hard foods (cheddar, manchego). However, it is a useful knife that can cut long or short ends.

Small spade knife: used for hard cheeses (asiago, parmigiano-reggiano, pecorino romano). The tip of the knife makes it easy to cut the cheese into pieces.

There are no hard and fast rules for this, so use your imagination. Whether it’s your first time or you’re looking to up your charcuterie game, here are some of my favorite plating secrets.

If you want to make this charcuterie plate ahead of time, avoid pre-shredding the cheese to dry it out.

Wrap unused cheese tightly in charcuterie board and refrigerate. Very hard and firm things will last for several weeks. Fresh cheeses like feta, mascarpone or mozzarella will last about 7-10 days.
